1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an Exchange account, we collect your first and last name, email address, and password (stored encrypted). You may also provide your city, zip code, children's ages, services offered, and biographical information.

Profile Information: We collect responses to optional "Get to Know Me" questions, availability schedules, and profile/family photos you upload.

Payment Information: Payments are processed securely through NMI (Network Merchants Inc). We store your customer vault ID and subscription status but do not store credit card numbers on our servers.

Communications: Messages sent through our in-app messaging system are stored to facilitate communication between connected members.

Newsletter Subscribers: If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address.

Usage Data: We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage data such as pages visited, time on site, and browser type.

2. How We Use Your Information

To create and manage your Exchange membership account
To facilitate connections between members for childcare exchanges
To process subscription payments through our payment processor (NMI)
To send transactional emails (verification updates, connection requests, welcome emails)
To send our weekly newsletter with local events and community updates
To display your profile to other verified, subscribed members

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Your information is shared only in the following circumstances:

With other members: Your profile information (name, city, bio, services, availability, photos, and reviews) is visible to other verified, subscribed members. Your email address is shared only with members you accept a connection with.
Service providers: We share data with trusted service providers that help us operate (NMI for payments, Mailchimp for newsletters, Resend for transactional emails, Amazon Web Services for photo storage).
Background checks: Information necessary for background check verification is shared with our third-party background check provider.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information when required by law or to protect the safety of our community.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices:

Passwords are encrypted using bcrypt hashing
Authentication uses secure, httpOnly cookies with SameSite protection
Photos are stored in encrypted cloud storage (Amazon S3)
Payment data is handled entirely by NMI's PCI-compliant infrastructure
Login endpoints are rate-limited to prevent brute-force attacks
All form inputs are sanitized to prevent injection attacks

5. Cookies

We use cookies for the following purposes:

Authentication: A secure, httpOnly session cookie to keep you logged in to your Exchange account
Analytics: Google Analytics cookies to understand site usage (anonymous)

We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking across other websites.

6. Children's Privacy

A Mom Exchange is a service for parents and guardians. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children under 13. Children's ages provided by parents in their profiles are used solely to help match families with compatible childcare arrangements.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access: View all personal information we hold about you through your profile page
Update: Edit your profile information at any time
Delete: Request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at info@amomexchange.com
Unsubscribe: Opt out of newsletter emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in each email
Cancel: Cancel your Exchange subscription at any time to stop future charges

8. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where required by law. Newsletter subscriber emails are retained until you unsubscribe.
