About This Event

Leelanau UnCaged is the free, all-day street festival where art and community come alive. Inspired by the groundbreaking ideas of composer John Cage, each year, on the last Saturday in September we transform the heart of Northport into dynamic, open-air stages. It’s a full takeover of music, unique performances, art vendors, and creative chaos—an immersive, family-friendly celebration of the Leelanau Peninsula's vibrant spirit. What to Expect The festival takes place after Labor Day when the vibe changes to a more relaxed pace, with gorgeous weather that can feel like summer or fall. Festival goers enjoy being outdoors, strolling through an array of artisans, food, and nonprofit vendors filling the streets. Your day is packed with diverse experiences: Music & Performances: Enjoy 7 stages featuring 34+ acts covering every genre. Art & Family Fun: Kids’ UnCaged art activities provide creative fun, and an array of art vendors line the streets. Unique Traditions: The festival kicks off with a beautiful Water Blessing over the bay—a time to honor and give thanks for these precious waters—followed by a procession to the festival center where music and dance performances begin. Local Amenities: Food options are plentiful throughout the day from food trucks and vendors as well as our local restaurants and shops. Logistics: The Northport Marina offers availability for boaters, and BATA Shuttle Service is provided throughout the day from Traverse City with stops in Suttons Bay and Peshawbestown. Leelanau UnCaged is free to festival goers thanks to the generous donations from businesses and patrons. Please Save the Date for Saturday, September 26, 2026!
